Well here is a long overdue Blog post.
With the convention season starting up again i'm hoping to start blogging weekly, sharing with you my convention trips, new work, projects and other bits going on in my life.
One thing that I have been working on is my YouTube channel,
I'm trying to be more engaging in the art community and I've been really enjoying making videos. Check out my latest one below :)
I'm also hoping to start a monthly news letter with specials discount codes for my online stores and competitions for my followers :D
First event will be MCM Liverpool Comic Con, 12th-13th March
Be sure to check out my Convention Schedule listed on the Home Page. No doubt this will grow as the year goes on :P
And if there's anything art related you would like to see from me, be sure to follow me on social media and comment; i'm always up for new challenges ;)
Been wanting to do this for a while now but thought I'd leave it until the end of the year. For a few months now I've had messages and emails regarding various types of commissions.
For simplicity's sake, I've put all of the prices into one format that everyone can follow.
I've also raised the prices of some commissions as I do put a lot of time and effort into them and so wanted the prices to reflect this.
Hoping this is ok with all of you guys. Looking forward to working on new projects with you.
**NOTE: Commissions will OPEN in the NEW YEAR.
I'm at home with my family so I do not plan on taking on any new commissions until I'm back in Manchester. So I will update on here when slots are back open
Btw the format of the commissions was totally inspired by Mikiko Ponczeck |D
Thought Bubble: Small Table, Great Artists and Being Wet!
Thought Bubble is an amazing Independent comic festival that runs every year in Leeds.
This year I had a half table in the Royal Armouries hall and was one of my best events this year. It was a little cushy but I got everything on lol.
I actually really liked my tiny setup; nice and simple yet enough work to look full,
My table was situated right next to Noelle Stevenson, writer of Lumberjanes and Nimona. It was super exciting to meet her!! I ended up buying Nimona and getting it signed. She was super nice and so chilled.
The event itself was super busy on Saturday with steady sales on Sunday. It was great -
APART FROM THE RAIN!!!
It was so wet, all weekend it rained, to the point coming home on Sunday so many trains were cancelled due to flooding D:
The crowd was great and everyone was there to buy comics. Madam Butterscotch did really well, with new readers picking her up and regulars coming back for the new books (*3*)
Didn't get to make much art as I was super busy with customers all day.
I did however get to make a cool Mystique commission.
I bought some awesome swag over the weekend. Its a great event to pick up exclusives from other artists as well as neat commissions.
I got the Shark Man commission from Kelly Angel as a Christmas present :D
The event was great for cosplays. So many unique and quirky costumes you wouldn't normally see at regular comic cons. Here are some of the ones I snapped from my table.
I love the Agent Carter and Angie cosplayers, no one ever does Angie!
Over all it was an amazing weekend with me coming home with less M.Butterscotch (look at that empty box!) and lots of goodies :D
MCM Birmingham: A Pleasant Surprise
The last time I did Mcm Birmingham Comic Con, it wasn't a comic con at all but Memorabilia and it was DREADFUL! this was back in 2011 and I had no art and it was a small event for ye old comic collectors that had no interest in small press artists.
The event now is a bustling comic event with families of all ages attending.
The Comic Village now gets the same love it gets for all other mcm events and its so nice to see what was a sad and disappointing event for me turn into an amazing weekend.
I think I've finally found table peace |D
My table setup is finally perfect for me and is just the right amount of art without it looking cluttered. I loved my table this weekend.
Art wise I was able to work on some new originals whilst maintaining steady sales. I drew a full coloured Harley and Poison Ivy and an inked bust of Catwoman, who I ended up liking too much to sell, so she became my commissions example xD
The cosplays this year were top notch! So many amazing costumes, so many amazing Warhammer 40k cosplayers! I loved it!!
Saitama from One Punch man was a definite fave for me <3
Also check out that Necron Lord, gah dayum!!
The whole weekend was a pleasant surprise.
Birmingham has a special place in my heart as it was one of the first events I ever attended as a fresh faced comic artist and to return to such an amazing event really warms my heart <3 <3
The crowd was incredible, so many people wanting to buy comics, to get into indie comics. Madam Butterscotch was well received with me walking away with no Book 1's! I've completely sold out again :'D
Having too much fun with Business Fish xD
I attended the event with my bff Morti, who was wandering around as Chica from Five Nights at Freddies.
She entered the masquerade with a Foxy and Bonny and walked away with the Judges Choice Award - which was amazing!! I'm so proud of her :D
Overall the event was a wonderful experience and I cannot wait to go back next year.
I'm all finished now for event for 2015!
It's been a hell of a year.
I will probably do a year in review at some point but for now, I hope you enjoy what I've been up to so far. I'll mention what events I have planned for next year in the year in review blog post, as well as future projects.
In the meantime be sure to keep in touch on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
They'll be Christmas art going up as well as my Winter Sale which starts this week on my stores!! :D
ta for now guys
After so long, I'm finally getting around to updating the main Madam Butterscotch site with all the current pages available.
Chapter 5 is now complete on the Website. It will be available on Tapastic either tonight or tomorrow.
Chapter 6 will start to go up in chunks all next week. The goal is to have everything available to read on the sites by the end of November...
So through out the Month of December expect to see lots of teasers and snippets, one off pieces and comics to welcome another instalment into the Butterscotch saga :D
Be sure to check out the following sites for page updates all through November.
Madam Butterscotch on Smackjeeves
Madam Butterscotch on Tapastic
Don't forget if you're at Thought Bubble this weekend, I'll be there with all Madam Butterscotch books and prints, so come and find me, Table 28 in the Royal Armouries!!
Another weekend, another convention.
This time it was one a lot closer to home. DokiDoki is a bi-annual event in Manchester and is one of my favourites. Its small but very enjoyable and I got to hang out with my arty buddies again :)
Unfortunately I didn't get many photos of cosplayers or pictures this time :(
ended up with a lop side display due to missing connectors on my grids. Still all the posters looked nice and full.
Hoping to have new Madam Butterscotch Prints soon yey!! \o/
The event itself was in a large sports hall at Manchester University.
There were tonnes of cool stalls, mostly catering to Anime/Japanese merchandise and artwork.
I ended up buying some swag at the end haha!
I got these adorable narwhal and squid bracelets from a store and for the life of me I can't remember her name. If I manage to find her shop I'll be sure to link it :3
I did manage to get to The Naked Lace Company, who I've met at previous DokiDoki events. They specialise in Sailor Fukus and Sailor Moon gear, so I couldn't resist in helping myself to a Sailor Saturn kit. Got Front and Long Back Bows plus a Collar, all made and ready to use. Means I can finally work on that Sailor Saturn cosplay hahaa!
In the end the event was quiet but very much enjoyable. It was great to hang out with my gals again and met tonnes of new people. Lots of people walked away with more Madam Butterscotch books so it was a great day.
At the very end this awesome band came on started playing songs from Animes. They were really good!
Next event in less than a week!! will be Thought Bubble Festival in Leeds!
This is a big event for me.
Lots of indie comic creators, big comic guests and lots and lots a new comics available over the weekend. Its one of my all time favourite events to attend and no doubt will be a busy weekend for everyone attending.
I'm even more excited as I'll have brand new Madam Butterscotch work to show off so I'm super excited!!! AWW YISS!!
see you soon guys!!!
This last weekend was MCM London Comic Con, possibly the biggest event in the UK.
It. Was. HEAVING!! So Busy.
Enjoyed the run up to the event by making more original work. Added Princess Serenity to my collection of Galaxy Girls :)
My Table setup for this event was probably my favourite yet.
Going high and lining all of my new posters up looked great walking past. Still need to do some new prints, hoping to work on some new ones for Thought Bubble in a couple of weeks
My table buddy wasn't working this weekend but was cosplaying around in her amazing Chica Cosplay from FNAF. My other friends cosplayed with her as the Purple Guy and a Pizza Delivery guy. They kept getting mobbed for photos lol XD
After Saturday had ended I went to watch the Euro Cosplay Championship.
The talent this year was INSANE!! so many great entries. The UK rep who cosplayed Maghda from Diablo 3 looked stunning! I wish I got photos. There was also a Stoik cosplay from How To Train Your Dragon who was the Hungary rep and Christine from Phantom of the Opera, who I think was Croatian; they too were favourites :)
I didn't get any photo's of my accommodation but I was sharing a room with my fiance on the Sunborn Yacht, which was incredible. We enjoyed James Bond styled martinis on the balcony, enjoying the view :3
Look at that view! That's how close we were :D
Sunday was full of amazing cosplayers passing by. Managed to snap a few. I wish I could cosplay and work my table but it's just so difficult to do both - trust me I've tried lol
Not many commissions, which was kind of nice in the end as by Sunday afternoon I was feeling a little ill :(
Never the less I didn't let it spoil my mood. I did a fun commission of a Good and Bad Alice though :)
Overall it was a fun, yet very tiring event. I got home sunday and immediately went to bed lol xD
Next event will by DokiDoki in Manchester next weekend (7th Nov)
so if you're in the area make sure to check it out!
Its a neat little event at Manchester University in the Sugden Sports Hall and has lots of Japanese related events on.
Hello fellow arty peeps
Thought I'd do a bit of an update seeing as I have a busy few weeks coming up :)
MCM London Comic Con is next week and I can't wait!! So excited, it'll have been 2 years since I was last in the Comic Village for London.
Going to have lots of new stock with me, including new original pieces and new posters.
Paradiso and Inferno are brand new and will be available in A3 posters..
Really looking forward to seeing how they turn out; the colours are so vivid!
In other news, Autumn is in full swing and is possibly my favourite time of the year. Its too mushy where I live, so I had it delivered in a box to decorate my desk lol.
Finally getting to a happy place with my desk setup. Being able to hang art and lists on the back is great and its finally nice to have storage space for everything.
I've also been trying to do the #Drawlloween and #Inktober challenges. Unfortunately my hectic schedule has only allowed me to do the first few days. Boo :(
Still, nice to be able to do some doodling when I can.
Finally, after 2 years of waiting my fiance's Kingdom Death kickstarter arrived!
Its a gorgeous miniatures set with tonnes of figures to make and a great campaign to play. The artwork is gorgeous and the overall feel to the game is top notch.
That's a loooooot of sprues lol
Be sure to come and find me at MCM London Comic Con Next WEEK!! Table CL12 in the Comic Village
ta for now guys
Last weekend I was at MCM Scotland Comic Con and I had a great weekend.
Its an event I always look forward to every year. The Scots are so welcoming and friendly and the event was so much bigger this year!
The train journey up was long but pleasant. Had some stunning views of the Scottish Countryside before pulling into Glasgow.
Unfortunately I didn't get many of the city itself but its always bustling and busy and has some great architecture.
Wore an old favourite. I love my vintage dresses, I need more in my life :3 lol
I went bigger this year in prep for London in a few weeks by adding another row of grids to hang posters from. IT WAS SO TALL!!!
It's been a long time since I had some new original work done but I've discovered and new-found love for traditional work again. My Galaxy Girls attracted much attention with one selling almost immediately! It was nice to have a hand-drawn corner of my table again.
I also spent a great deal of my spare time drawing at my table or in my hotel room - something I haven't done very much of late. But it felt sooooo gooood to have the time to just make art again.
I saw lots of amazing cosplays but in my own busyness I didn't get to snap many of them x'D which is a shame. However I did snap this amazing Rose Quartz and Pearl from Steven Universe and a really cool biker-gang Sailor Mars
As usual myself and Morti went for tasty noms at TGI Fridays - sort of a convention tradition for the two of us if we both do well on the Saturday.
To celebrate I had a White Chocolate Martini - thinking it would be a fluffy chocolate drink - ho boy was I wrong. It was a gorgeous hazlenutty and choclately drink that was pretty much straight booze lol xD Very tasty none-the-less. It even came with mini marshmallows as a garnish (*3*)
Sunday, as usual, was a very commission heavy day. Two of my favourites was getting to draw the Jet Twins from Transformers Animated (my heart was squeeing!) and Ryuko from Kill la Kill that I went completely overboard on lol
Finally I arrived home eager and ready to make new work.
As a treat I bought NEW PENS!! and immediately set to work on a super spoopy Halloween Galaxy Girl yey!
My next event will be MCM London Comic Con at the end of October!
Its a big one for me. Haven't been in the London Comic Village since October 2013 - almost 2 years ago!!
I'm really excited to be back with a fresh outlook and new work to share. So come and find me guys!!
Got encouraged by a few arty buddies to give the 3 Marker Challenge a try. So here are my results!
Apologies for the blurriness of the video, I'm still getting used to video on my camera. Hopefully I'll have better videos in the future :)
Last Saturday I attended Mancstercon, a small event held at Media City Uk in Salford.
It was a kind of last minute decision for me to attend, but with it being so local I couldn't really say no,
I got dressed up and headed over to the event.
Thanks to trams being their usual reliable selves (not really) I arrived with time to set up.
There were no table plans and it was a bit of a free for all - which left a few artists disgruntled. However I was able to pitch my table next to Sophira-Lou
It was a very Quiet event...
I knew the event was going to be small but dead?! was not what I was expecting.
Very few attendees actually came down the dealers area; we ended up christening the event #tradercon because there were more traders than attendees!
However, this could be down to many things.
Manchester Pride and Man City Football game was on the same day. This being paired with Media City being very out of the way for most attendees, the event did suffer.
The staff though were very friendly and apologetic.
And to be fair it was a great day out. I had a awesome time catching up with friends and actually working on new projects.
I decided to pack up early and head off with Rob for some eats.
We went to the Chiquitos at Salford Quays and it was really nice! Food was great and the atmosphere was brilliant,
In the end it was a great day. Had fab bantz with friends and had great food :D
Next Convention will be MCM Scotland Comic Con 26th-27th of September!
Bye for now
